Can I see if my gate is open or closed using the Sonoff MINI-D? +
No. The Sonoff MINI-D acts purely as a remote pulse trigger to open or close the motor circuit. It does not feature magnetic or external sensor inputs to report real-time open/closed status positions inside your app.
-
Will this gate controller work with Apple HomeKit? +
Yes! Because the Sonoff MINI-D is a Matter-compatible device, it links seamlessly with Apple Home, allowing you to use Siri or the Apple Home App for gate control alongside your other smart devices.
-
Can I power the MINI-D directly from my gate motor's battery backup? +
Yes. The device supports a wide 12-48V DC input range, making it simple to tap directly into the 12V or 24V DC battery/power rail found on most standard South African gate motors.

Critical Installation & Programming Parameters
To ensure proper functionality when automating automated gates or garage doors, the Sonoff MINI-D must be programmed in the eWeLink app with the following configuration:
· Switch Mode: Must be set to Pulse Mode.
· Inching Setting: Must be enabled and set exactly to 0.5 Seconds with Auto Off activated.
Please Note:
1. Power Inputs: AC and DC power supplies cannot be wired or utilized at the same time.
2. Professional Installation: A certified installer must perform the installation to prevent voiding the product warranty.
3. Status Limitations: The Sonoff MINI-D operates as a trigger switch and does not feature built-in external sensor inputs to read or display open/closed positioning status.
CRITICAL INSTALLATION WARNING: Connecting to a High-Power Contactor
Because the Sonoff MINI-D is a low-power dry contact relay, it is engineered to handle a maximum resistive load of 24V⎓ 2A or small motor loads up to 8W.
If you are using the MINI-D to automate heavy-duty electrical equipment—such as commercial borehole pumps, high-voltage security lighting, industrial roller doors, or heavy multi-phase motors—you MUST use an external AC or DC magnetic contactor.
· Protect Your Device: Wiring a high-draw inductive load directly into the MINI-D will create severe electrical arcing that will permanently fuse the internal relay contacts and void your warranty.
· The Safe Connection Method: Connect the output dry contacts of the Sonoff MINI-D to the low-power coil circuit (A1 / A2 terminals) of your external contactor. Let the heavy-duty contactor handle the actual high-current load switching.
· Safety First: Always isolate the main DB board power source before installation. Work must be carried out by a qualified electrician.
Step-by-Step Voice Control Setup for Google Home & Amazon Alexa
Because the Sonoff MINI-D features native Matter compatibility, you can quickly set up hands-free voice commands. For safety and convenience with gate or garage door operation, we recommend creating a dedicated voice shortcut.
Option A: Google Home Setup
1. Link via Matter or eWeLink: Open your Google Home App, tap the + icon, select Device, and add the MINI-D either using its Matter QR code or by linking your eWeLink Smart Home account.
2. Rename for Natural Speech: Rename the device to something clear and distinct, such as "Driveway Gate" or "Garage Door".
3. Create a Voice Automations Routine (Recommended):
o Go to the Automations tab and tap Add.
o Choose Voice Command as the starter (e.g., "OK Google, open the gate").
o Set the action to Adjust Home Devices, select your device, and set the state to On.
o Note: Since the MINI-D is programmed to auto-inch (0.5s Pulse Mode), triggering it "On" will automatically pulse the gate open/closed.
Option B: Amazon Alexa Setup
1. Discover the Switch: Open the Alexa App, head to Devices, tap the + icon, select Add Device, and follow the prompts to link via Matter or enable the eWeLink Skill.
2. Adjust Device Profile: Change the device name to "Front Gate" or "Main Gate".
3. Set Up an Alexa Routine:
o Go to More > Routines and tap the + icon to create a new routine.
o Enter a custom phrase under When this happens > Voice (e.g., "Alexa, trigger the driveway gate").
Under Add Action, select Smart Home > All Devices > Choose your MINI-D > Set power to On. Save the routine.
